Biography:

Dr. William James Stevenson was born in Aurora, Ontario on the 25th of January, 1864.  Dr. Stevenson was the first of 4 children born to George Langtry Stevenson and the former Ann Darling.  His father had been married previously to the former Benjamina  Ashton and from that union, Dr. Stevenson had 4 older siblings; John Ashton Stevenson, Eliza Lyle Stevenson, Albert Stevenson and Seth B. Stevenson.  His 3 younger siblings were; Mina Jane Stevenson, Rose Ella Margaret Stevenson and Ann Matilda Stevenson.

Dr. Stevenson graduated from Trinity Medical College in Toronto in 1887.  In the summer of 1897, Dr. Stevenson was practicing medicine in Bothwell, Ontario.  It is unknown whether Dr. Stevenson was assisting local physicians with an epidemic or whether he was acting as a locum. The majority of Dr. Stevenson’s career, before and after 1897 was spent in Aurora, Ontario.

Dr. Stevenson was married to Barbara Gardner.  Mrs. Stevenson was born in December of 1866.   Dr. and Mrs. Stevenson had 2 daughters; Margery Darling Stevenson was born on the 3rd of September, 1894 and Barbara Gardner Stevenson was born on the 19th of November, 1904.

Mrs. Stevenson died in 1927.  Dr. Stevenson died in Aurora on the 22nd of January, 1939.  He worked up until the day before he died.  Dr. and Mrs. Stevenson were buried at the Aurora Cemetery.
