Biography:

Dr. George Bates Mott was born in L’Orignal, Ontario on the 12th of May, 1821.

Dr. Mott joined the College of Physicians and Surgeons on the 7th of May, 1869.  Dr. George B. Mott’s name was listed in the Upper Canada Law List published in 1870 under the Lambton County Coroners subtitle.  It listed his location as Wyoming.

According to the 1875 Charlton’s Kent County Business Directory, Dr. Mott was practicing medicine in Dresden.  It advertises that Dr. G. B. Mott, M.D. is a physician and surgeon.  It is believed that Dr. Mott received his medical education in the United States, as his death is listed on the Directory of Deceased American Physicians.

Dr. Mott was married to Hester Ann Smith.  She was also born in L’Orignal on the 5th of April, 1827.

Dr. and Mrs. Mott had 5 children; Mary Ann Mott, Charlotte Amelia Mott, Sarah Tamson Mott, Artimisie Mott and George Frederick Mott.

According to the 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 census’, the Mott family lived in Petrolia (Lambton Co), Ontario.  Even when Dr. Mott was listed in the 1875 Business Directory, as practicing in Dresden, it appears he still resided in Petrolia.  Dr. Mott’s name appears on numerous birth and death records for people living in Dresden and Chatham Township.

Mrs. Mott died in Petrolia on the 8th of April, 1887.  Dr. Mott died in Wallaceburg on the 17th of January, 1903.  Dr. and Mrs. Mott were buried at Riverview Cemetery in Wallaceburg.
