Biography:

Dr. Nichol Laing McQuarrie was born near Cornwall, Ontario on the 31st of May, 1820.  Dr. McQuarrie was the 5th of 11 children born to Neil McQuarrie and the former Agnes Nancy Laing.  His father was born in Scotland and his mother was born in the United States.  His siblings were; Donald, Thomas, John, Hugh, Adam (who died as an infant), Duncan, Nancy, Neil, George and David.  Shortly after Dr. McQuarrie’s birth, his family moved to Harwich Twp in Chatham-Kent.

Little is known about Dr. McQuarrie’s education.  Once qualified as a physician, Dr. McQuarrie settled in Wallaceburg, Ontario and he practiced medicine there for over 30 years.  Dr. McQuarrie married Martha Tichner in March of 1863, in Marine City, Michigan.  Sadly his wife died in Paw Paw, Michigan a year later in April of 1864.

According to the 1891 census, Dr. McQuarrie was a lodger at the Reid residence in Sombra Township.

Dr. McQuarrie died of “old age” on March 2nd, 1901 while living in Sombra Township, Lambton County.
