Biography:

Dr. Henry Martin was born in England around 1800.

Dr. Martin married Hannah Verrall on the 18th of April, 1827 at Spitalfields Christ Church in Stepney, London, England.  Mrs. Martin was born on the 1st of June, 1804 in Lewes, Sussex, England, the 4th of 8 children born to Thomas Verrall and the former Mary Funnell.  Her siblings were; George, Mary, Lucy, Sargeson, Henry, William and Ruth.

Dr. and Mrs. Martin became parents to at least 3 children;  Henry Martin was born in April of 1828, Theodore Martin was born on the 22nd of December, 1831 and Reuben Martin was born on the 9th of July, 1834.  All 3 sons were born, while the family resided at Upper Seymour Street in London, England.  They were baptized at Old Saint Pancras Church in London.  Dr. Martin’s profession was listed as a “chemist” on the baptismal records.

Dr. and Mrs. Martin immigrated to Canada around 1840.  Initially they settled in Chatham but moved to Wallaceburg a short time later.  Mrs. Martin drowned on the 9th of August, 1841 in Wallaceburg.

Dr. Martin is listed in the 1851 Wallaceburg Directory as a physician and surgeon.

The whereabouts of Dr. Martin is unknown after 1851.

*Mrs. Martin’s brothers George, William, Sargeson and Henry also immigrated to Canada and they settled in Chatham.

*Dr. Martin’s eldest son Henry Martin died on the 20th of June, 1886.  His son Theodore died on the 15th of March, 1900.  His youngest son Reuben Martin died on the 11th of February, 1892.  They are all buried at Riverview Cemetery in Wallaceburg.
