Biography:

Dr. Peter Lamont Graham was born in Lobo Township (Middlesex County), Ontario on the 25th of March, 1845.  Dr. Graham was the 3rd of 10 children born to Duncan P. Graham and the former Christina Lamont.   His parents were farmers and his siblings were; twins Donald Lamont Graham and Jane Graham, Catherine Graham, Duncan Graham, Annie Graham, Christine Graham, Archibald Duncan Graham, Mary Graham and Isabelle Graham.

According to the 1882 Ontario Medical Register, Dr. Graham became a member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons on the 8th of May, 1877 and noted that he was practicing in Bothwell.

Dr. Graham married Mary Agnes Reid on the 3rd of January, 1878 in Bothwell, Ontario.  Mrs Graham was born in Ingersol, Ontario on the 13th of July, 1856.  She was the eldest of 8 children born to Colin Reid and the former Mary Galbraith.  Her father was involved in manufacturing and Mrs. Graham’s siblings were; Peter Reid, Flora Reid, Colin Reid Jr., Margaret J. Reid, Annie Isabell Reid, Donald Galbraith Reid and John Campbell Reid.  According to the 1901 census, Mr. and Mrs. Reid immigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1855, prior to the birth of Mrs. Graham.  Between 1866 and 1870 the Reid family moved from Ingersol to Bothwell.

Dr. Graham was listed in the 1880 Kent Directory as practicing medicine in Bothwell. It lists his medical office and residence on George Street.

According to the 1881 census, Dr. and Mrs. Graham lived at Lot 12, Concession 4, Lobo Twp in Middlesex County.  Dr. and Mrs. Graham had 4 children; Ella Mildred Graham was born on the 7th of May, 1881, Roscoe Reid Graham was born on the 2nd of January, 1890 and twins Stanley Galbraith Graham and Wilfred Lamont Graham were born on the 2nd of October, 1895.  Stanley and Wilfred both served during World War I.  All 3 sons became physicians.

Dr. Graham resided at Lot 12, Conc 4 Lobo Twp., until his death on the 4th of November, 1928.  Mrs. Graham died on the 12th of June 1929.  At the time of her death she resided at 1193 Richmond Street in London.  Dr. and Mrs. Graham were buried at the Melville United Cemetery, Ivan, Middlesex Co.

*Dr. Graham’s brother Dr. Archibald Duncan Graham graduated M.D.,C.M. from Trinity Medical College in conjunction with The University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in 1887.  He practiced medicine in Bothwell and he also appears on the Chatham-Kent Physician Tribute website.
