Biography:

Dr. James Becket was born in Thamesville, Ontario on the 13th of August, 1871.  Dr. Beckett was delivered by Dr. George A. Tye, who is also featured on the Chatham-Kent Physician Tribute.  Dr. Becket was the son of the Rev. John Beckett and the former Agnes Hall.  His father was a Presbyterian Minister who was born near Peterborough.  His mother was born in Quebec.  Dr. Becket had an older sister named Margaret and a younger sister named Agnes.

Dr. Becket attended school in Thamesville before attending The University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine.  He graduated in 1894.  Dr. Becket returned to his roots in Thamesville to open his medical practice.  Dr. Beckett is listed in the 1900 Ontario Business Directory as practicing in Thamesville.

According to the 1921 census, Dr. Becket was living with his parents and his sister Agnes in Toronto and he was still practicing medicine.

Dr. Becket never married.  Dr. Becket died on the 10th of February, 1935.  At the time of his death, he resided at 16 Alexandra Blvd., in Toronto with his sister Agnes. Dr. Beckett moved to that address in 1927.  He was buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto.
