Biography:

Dr. Hugh Rae Gordon Samson was born in London, Ontario on the 11th of August, 1921.  His parents Hugh Rae Samson and the former Catherine Farrell, were born and raised in Scotland.  They immigrated to Canada in 1920.  In 1922, the Samson family was living in Essex County.  Dr. Samson had 4 siblings; Winnifred, Betty, Blanche and Bernard.  In 1935 the Samson family lived at 637 Peter Street in the Town of Sandwich (Essex County).   His father was a stockkeeper at the General Motors plant in Windsor.  On the 2nd of February, 1937 his father died at Metropolitan Hospital in Windsor.  At the time of Mr. Samson’s death the family resided at 1248 Pierre Avenue in Windsor.

Dr. Samson attended the University of Western Ontario and graduated M.D. in 1945.  He interned at Parkwood Hospital in London and at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal.

Dr. Samson married Dr. Virginia Davis Hoover on the 20th of June, 1946 in Windsor, Ontario.  Dr. Virginia Hoover was born in Kansas on the 16th of October, 1921 the only child of Harold C. Hoover and the former Vivien Davis.  She graduated from Kansas State College and the University of Kansas School of Medicine.  Dr. Hoover and Dr. Samson interned at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal.

Dr. and Dr. Samson had 6 children, 2 sons and 4 daughters.

By August of 1947 Dr. and Dr. Samson were living in Chatham.  They resided at 162 Elizabeth Street and his medical office was located at 247 King Street West.  According to the 1954 Vernon’s City of Chatham Business Directory, Dr. Hugh Rae Gordon Samson’s office had re-located to 51 Grand Avenue West.

By 1958, Dr. and Dr. Samson were living at 2215 Sheridan Road in Mount Royal, Quebec.

In 1968 Dr. Hugh Rae Gordon Samson lived in California.  According to the 1968 Downey City Business Directory his medical practice was located at 24-10734 S. Paramount Blvd.  His first marriage ended in divorce in 1969 and he married Jacqueline N. Breton on the 3rd of August, 1970.  Mrs. Jacqueline Samson was born on the 14th of July, 1930.

Dr. Samson died in Dade City, Florida on the 21st of February, 1985.  He was buried at York Cemetery in Toronto.  Mrs. Jacqueline Samson died on the 26th of October, 2010.  She was buried next to her husband at York Cemetery.

Dr. Virginia Samson practiced medicine at Montreal Children’s Hospital until 1996.  In 1999 Dr. Virginia Samson moved to St. Albert, Alberta.  Dr. Virginia Samson died in Alberta on the 5th of May, 2018.
